Calvin Crichton

Calvin Crichton Dr. Ac, AMT

Calvin Crichton first became involved in Oriental medicine through his life long study of Japanese and Chinese marital arts. Many of the martial arts he has studied over the past 30 years incorporate varying degrees of natural medicine into their curriculums. As a result, it was only natural that he pursues a more formalized training in this field.

He began his healing arts training at age 19 in the basics of Japanese shiatsu and qi gong. By age 29 he had finished a 1-year comprehensive correspondence course in TCM theory and a reflexology course through the Reflexology Association of Canada.

In 2000, he entered the Acupressure Massage Therapy program at the Canadian College of Natural Medicine in Bedford, Nova Scotia. He graduated as an Acupressure Massage Therapist in 2004. In 2005, he entered the college again to take part in the 4-year Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine program (3600 hours). In 2008, he received the Diploma of Doctor of Acupuncture from the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Natural Medicine and a Diploma of Acupuncture from the Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He will graduate in June 2009 from the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine with a Diploma of Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

As well as being a part of two formal programs at CCATCM in the last ten years, Calvin has spent time at the Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine learning scalp acupuncture, qi gong, advanced diagnostics and herbology.

Calvin is one of only four people in the Maritimes who has received the Master of Auricular Medicine certificate from the world-renowned auricular medicine specialist Dr. Li Chun Huang. In November 2008, he was given permission by Dr. Huang to start teaching her level one and two course curriculum. Finally, he is currently studying Atsuikuroishi (black stone therapy) from the Japanese healing system Isshinho, under the guidance of Dr. Guillermo Murphy del Cueto, PH.D.

As a Presbyterian minister in Blue Mountain, Nova Scotia, Calvin has incorporated his healing arts training into his ministry by working on parishioners in the local manse and also facilitates a Sunday night open clinic in the Garden of Eden community hall. His passion in life is martial arts training as well as teaching. He operates a small private school in New Glasgow Nova Scotia where he teaches the art of Daito Ryu Aiki Bujutsu (http://www.niagara.com/~zain/).

Finally, he has students of his own in acupressure and qi gong, is president of both the Acupressure Massage Therapy Association of Atlantic Canada and the Canadian Auricular Medicine and Ear Acupuncture Association and Director of Continuing Education for the Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of Nova Scotia.
